AIM Lab is an independent private laboratory specialising in Anatomical Pathology services. Our focus is exclusively on histology and cytology specimen examinations with ancillary testing.
The practice was started by Dr Ahmed Ismail Motala in 2012 and our focus has always been to deliver a high quality service which is client centred. We pride ourselves in offering an exceptional and friendly, personalised service at competitive rates.
Dermatopathology
A dermatopathologist is a highly trained physician who specializes in diagnosing disorders of the skin under a microscope. The subspecialty of dermatopathology is a combination of both dermatology (the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair and nail diseases) and pathology (identification of diseases microscopically).
Gynae & Placental Pathology
Placental findings may explain clinical events during the pregnancy, clarify unusual results from prenatal investigations, and determine the cause of or contributing factors to perinatal morbidity or mortality. Gynaecologic pathology encompasses a wide range of inflammatory, pre-neoplastic and neoplastic disorders with an increasing emphasis on molecular characterisation of tumours.
Gastro-intestinal Tract
The main purpose of the gastrointestinal tract is the transport of food and the absorption of nutrients. Many pathologic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract impair either or both of these functions. The gastrointestinal tract, and especially the colon, is a common site of malignancy. The two main symptoms related to pathology of the gastrointestinal tract are abdominal pain and gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
General Surgical
The practice of surgical pathology allows for definitive diagnosis of disease (or lack thereof) in any case where tissue is surgically removed from a patient. This is usually performed by a combination of gross (i.e., macroscopic) and histologic (i.e., microscopic) examination of the tissue, and may involve evaluations of molecular properties of the tissue by immunohistochemistry or other laboratory tests.
